Ectomycorrhiza (EM) is the symbiont of many forest trees. The symbiotic partners of EM are woody plants and Asco- and Basidiomycota. They form a Hartig net proliferating in the intercellular spaces or the tree roots. The fungi often surround the individual root tips with a hyphal mantle.
