The existing wired router is physically attached to 4 computers. Is replacing it with a wireless router a simple process, such as... 1. Disconnect the wires from the wired router, 2. Reconnect the same wires to the wireless router (to maintain the existing and formally wired network infrasture) and, 3. Activate, configure the secure wireless router by inserting a CD and following a clear set of instructions? I'm not technically inclined by any stretch and want to avoid comprimising the existing network for a long period of time.

No, just follow the instructions on the install CD that comes with the wireless router. You can still plug wires into the back of the router, usually four ports. Use it both ways, wired and wireless.
Belkin, Linksys and Netgear all do about the same. I prefer Belkin becasue the signal is stronger from it.

Firstly do you have wireless cards in your computers? If yes then its not a big deal... dont disconnect everything. just use one of the ports on your wired router to connect to your wireless router and then configure it. and then disconnect one computer and test it and play around with the settings (optimize the settings like changing the channels, changing the ssid and stuff like that) and then make everything wireless...

all the best...

That essentially is it. Physically replace the router and run the software set up disk.
