ultrasound picture of their baby before they can have one? With the general understanding that abortion is legal right now.

I did not write, if I did or didn't support this. It is a question, this was in the news.

if something is legal then you need to leave it to the individual. trying to persuade them out of something that is legal is NOT THE GOVERNMENTS JOB. It is supposed to be blind to opinions and just look at the legal aspect of it... that would be the government taking a stance and saying hey, we can't change the law but we still think it is wrong... that is not the role of any state government... sure politicians can try to CHANGE the legality of it.. but as long as it is legal the government should have no opinion.

I figure you know this.. but most of the readers don't seem to.. this was attempted in a Southern State in this Session.

It doesn't matter. Planned Parenthood in many states have ultrasound to check how big the embryo is and how far along in the pregnancy the woman is. The woman getting the abortion see the ultrasound picture and it doesn't change their mind. They already came with their mind made up and seeing a blob that is barely noticeable isn't going to inspire their "maternal" feelings. Most abortions are done at 5-7 weeks. It doesn't look like a baby so no feeling is inspired.

No.

It's the "have to" that's the tip off.

People deeply resent being told what to do, yet everyone feels it's OK to tell women what they should do with their own lives and selves.

I think that there should education, so that everyone understands about pregnancy (and how to prevent it), and images of development in the womb are educational, and should be seen as part of one's education (when they're of an age for it, I'm not talking about 5 yr olds here).

But, if a woman is in the state of having an unwanted pregnancy, a law that requires her to view an ultrasound is coercion.

And that's just wrong.

If she were choosing to abort in her first month, your theory holds absolutely no water. She would have no problem aborting, as there is NOTHING to see.

I understand your feelings on abortion, but I implore you to think about the rights of a woman to choose what happens to her body. Forget, for one moment, about the fetus. And try to put your emotions aside for a minute. Only a minute. Look at the issue in the same light we give the right to free speech and the right to bear arms. What you are fighting for is a women giving up the right to choose what happens to their bodies. Think about that for just one moment. We all jump up and down when someone even suggests that our rights to own a gun is violated...but it somehow seems to be okay that a woman should be denied the right to determine what happens to her body!

I have given pro-life respect and an open mind. And I truly understand and respect and applaud the individuals who fight for the rights of the unborn. I just wish that they would lend an ear to those who fight for women's rights...just for a moment...with an open mind. You don't need to change your mind or your opinion, but understand that all pro-choicers are not baby killers...many are just fighting for the rights of women.

I'm pro-choice and I still think that would be a good idea.

However, I don't think women take abortion as lightly as some of you think. It's not an inconvenient form of birth control. And I think all women really understand what it means to be carrying around a living being inside of them.

As long as the woman is still given the right to do what she wants to do with her body, then whatever measure(s) people want to take to thoroughly educate them would be a good idea.

don't see a problem with it. most women know that when they go into a clinic to have a termination, there is a baby in there somewhere.

if a woman is that unsure she needs more counselling, and this may be a way to find those women.

some do. some women are pregnant with babies that have no brain, or spine & they find this out while having an ultrasound. but if abortion is taken away, these women will have to give birth to a dead baby or go to jail. not a great system if you ask me.

Given the government's failure to ensure the health care of our heroes in the military, I would not support ANY law that allows the government to have ANYTHING to do with a citizen's health care.

Interesting idea. It would let the woman know it is a baby, not just a hunk of tissue.
