Most of the swings these days are battery powered. If you want a wind-up swing try going to a baby consignment store.

Good Luck finding one. I saw a new swing at Babies R Us that can be plugged in if you don't want to use batteries. This might also be a solution for you. I think the swing is made by Fisher Price or Graco.

Well, you could check some used baby supply stores. I thought the same thing when we adopted our little girl. But I couldn't find one that looked clean and or safe. So for one of my shower gifts I asked for a battery recharger (one that can handle different sizes of batteries) and some rechargable batteries. Much to my surprize, my very practicle Aunt had already thought of this and that is what she had bought for us. It isn't the most fun baby gift in the world, but it sure is useful! Now I use rechargable batteries for the swing, toys, digital camera, and crib mobile! I would have to say that it is the best gift I received!

I remember those! I haven't seen one in probably a couple of decades though. Those things were so loud, they ticked every time that thing would wind down another notch. And I don't think they made them with an open top. I'd suggest sticking to the battery powered kind (or maybe you could find one that plugs into the wall), we only had to buy batteries for ours once, so it was only about $6 in batteries.

You can buy rechargable batteries and a charger for fairly cheap. The only problem with the old wind up ones is they scare the baby when you wind them, but your best bet of finding one is at a consignment stores or yard sales.

why would you want a wind up one...if that baby is asleep let that damn swing go. Why would you want a swing that you have to wind when the baby wakes up when it stops. The batteries in my Fischer price aqarium swing last FOREVER. (at least a month) so it wont be too pricey.

I havent seen them lately, maybe if you looked for a used one at a consignment shop they may have an older one like that. The batteries usually last a long time, though

Buy rechargable batteries and get the actual swing secondhand. You may be able to get one free on freecycle.org

trust me - I've had both (4 kids) and the battery ones are WAY better. Quieter, last longer, safer (the wind up ones were top heavy)
