I live in SE Michigan in Zone 5. Our average last frost date is May 15, although you should also keep an eye on the overnight lows in your forecast.

START YOUR SEEDS NOW! Tomato and peppers should have been started mid-March!

I'd suggest waiting til the end of May to put out your pepper plants, since they like it HOT. This is what I do, and I've had good luck with this method.

Two sources for your info. Keep both handy. Contact your local County Extension Agent (see Phone Book- State University) and a copy of Wyman's Garden Encly. Both will give you exact info. Wyman's will cost about $60 but be on hand for every plant question. The local source will always be free. Good Planting.

May 19. You can often plant earlier if you keep an eye on the 10 day forecast and there are no nightly lows predicted below 40F. I often am able to plant my garden a week earlier this way.

Around May 15 for your location.

The OSU cooperative extension is a great resource for gardening questions including frost free dates.
