Our new neihgbors moved in at Christmas '06.How do we ask them to take it down without creating enemies instead of neighbors? They are not at home much and we don't know them very well. I don't want a new enemy. I just want thier Christmas decor to come down before Christmas '07!!!!

Unless your neighborhood has a law or rule about this, you can't make them take the decorations down. You may ask them to if it annoys you that much, but they have a right to leave them up if they desire...annoying as that may be.

I agree it looks tacky when people leave holiday decorations/lights up well past the holiday but it's their business and if you start trying to tell your neighbors how their property should look, they may begin to return the favor and things tend to go downhill from there.

In other words, pick your battles...or perhaps (since you mentioned they aren't home much) offer to take the stuff down for them, and leave it in an area they designate.

I totally understand your issue. I have a neighbor who still has the front door of their house wrapped in gold Christmas paper with a bow!!!!! I think it is pure laziness on their behalf. They live inside the house therefore they don't have to look at it, but those of us living near by get to look at it each day. I've thought about leaving a note, but not sure if it would back fire or not. If your neighbors have a mail box maybe you could leave a note attached to the outside of the box without your name of course!! Good Luck.....

You really have no control over this.
And yes,I would feel the same way.Since you don't know them very well and don't want to get off on the wrong foot with them I would leave well enough alone for now.
Maybe over the summer you'll get to know them better and can casually mention to them that Christmas is still 9 months away!!!

That is when a neighborhood association comes in handy. They have rules and regulations that all home owners must follow. If you don't have an association the i think you are out of luck. Just have to deal with it. Sorry!!

You could write a little note saying something like "We were wondering if the calender has been changed and Christmas is coming before Easter this year?" or maybe "It was ugly at Christmas, it's even uglier now, take it down PLEASE!" and leave it on their door.

Tell them since Easter is the next religious holiday, they should be preparing for that by taking down the tree and lights!

Why is it any of your business? If I were their, I'd tell them how you feel and pay them to turn all the lights on!!

I wouldn't say anything. Life is too short to stress small stuff.
