If the man has known the woman for many years and now they have random sex (couple of times every few months or so), what does that mean for the man? Are men able to compartamentalize their feelings that easily? I.e., they used to be friends, and now they have sex. And that's all there is to it? Or could there be more meaning?

It really depends on the guy. Sure, some guys look at it very simply like "we're friends, and sometimes we f**k" . To others, there are lots of feelings involved that they may not want to share. To others, it makes it easier for them to stop seeing their 'friend' as a person, and only look at them as a sex object with no emotions.

You sound shocked that men can have sex without emotional attachment. Actually, lots of women can do the same. At least, there are enough women who lie about it, that men presume that women can do the same.

Either way, if a guy is f-buddies with a girl, he probably believes that the girl is just as free of non-platonic feelings as he is. Most f-buddy relationships fall apart once one of the parties realizes that the other DOES have non-platonic feelings.

However, this doesn't mean that all guys are a$$holes. Believe it or not, girls, most guys DO care about things other than themselves and DON'T want to hurt you. That's why most decent guys get squeamish about the idea of sex with a virgin... because we know that there is a heavy emotional attachment there. If we KNOW that you have romantic and emotional tied up in having sex, we know it's wrong to have sex with you when the feeling isn't mutual. This isn't true of all guys, of course, but most of us don't want to hurt people. You just need to be very clear about where you are emotionally, and never, NEVER send mixed signals expecting us to be mind-readers.

It does not mean that the man has suddenly discovered suppressed emotions for the woman. Men can seperate the act of sex with any emotional attachment. It means he likes the sex. It's basically a form of masturbation.

If it's happening every few months or so, it's straight sex. Nothing associated with it. No relationship. No love, No feelings, just sex. Men do it all the time. Women do it all the time.

Actaully, both men and women are able to do such things (I'M NOT ONE OF THEM ... thank goodness). However, the imformal word for using a woman for sex is called "Booty-Call" -- for lack of a better term.

Now whether or not thats a good thing depends on what your views are in life.

Good luck to your friend!

Yes there could be more to it than sex , but some men just have sex when they dont love you to help them with stress.

When it comes to sex, a man leaves his brain at the door. It is also good relief, like changing your oil in your car.
