Why doesn't my laptop turn off?

I mean, I hit the right button to shut it down, but it restarts instead.
It only shuts downs if I unplug it.

I'm guessing something got messed up in the configuration for your power button.

To fix this, do Start >> Control Panel. Open "Power Options". Click the Advanced Tab. Then make sure the 3 options there are the way you want them to be, especially the "When I press the power button on my computer."

Are you using the windows shutdown by clicking start then shutdown. Make shure tha you select shutdown on the window that pops up. If your pushing the button that can screw thigns up.

You don't say what brand you have. That makes a difference.
