I'm going through a really tough and difficult time myself right now.
I'm trying to do things like exercise while watching cooking shows, getting my mind refocused on other things, and taking good care of my body. When I think about the bad stuff, I try to stop and think about what I need to do next and try to do that and focus on what I want to get done and accomplish. I try to help others and myself and focus on the people who are here and God.

The past is good for 2 things: happy memories and lessons learned. If you persist in dwelling on the past that means you still haven't figured out the lessons to be learned. But then again, maybe there's none. So change the channel - fast forward it to the here and now.

It takes maturity to control your thoughts to veer towards the positive. Oftentimes, this can be achieved by keeping yourself busy and productive (studies, work, hobbies, etc.). Keep your body preoccupied with good stuff - do rewarding activities, learn to relax and enjoy, etc. You'd be surprised how easy it is for your mind to stay attuned to your body, and vice-versa. Once the mind has been conditioned to pleasant thoughts, then optimism sets in.

Think happy. Be happy. SMILE!

I always remember the poster inside my first grade room. "Don't cry over spilled milk" I took it literally for the longest time until I was old enough to explain it to myself. That's exactly my point, why will you dwell on something that you cant do nothing about, move on and just wipe the spill . Pour another glass and enjoy the drink.

You can't. It's part of what makes you who you are.
Take your past as a learning experience and help others in the same situation. Optimistic...Remind yourself that you won't let it happen again within the best of your abilities.
