I've traveled from various states on the east coast and the flights were all between 3 & 4 hours. It all depends on the flight route. Turbulence has never been an issue on my various trips, but I think my timing has been excellent. Hurricane season is rather unpredictable, but Barbados isn't one of the islands that has had any recent major hits...not in decades. If you're very concerned with traveling during hurricane season, avoid Sept & Oct as those are typically when there is more activity in the seas (June - Nov is the entire season however).
Barbados is never boring unless you want it to be boring. They thrive on tourism and the nightlife is pretty busy compared to other islands. If you are trying to find the busiest time to go, Late in April this year is World Cup Cricket & Reggae on the Hill (top reggae acts), late July into August is Cropover (great for partying), Christmas-time in the Caribbean as a whole is a great time to visit, January is Jazz Festival. Let us know when you're going and someone may be able to direct you some more.
Be sure to listen to the radio when you reach as there will be ads playing with various info you may not catch in the tourist guides.

Yes, I've been on a flight to Barbados before, 5 times, 6 times this Friday. It took me about 5 hours to get there from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and no bad turbulance. No hurricanes, but then again I never really arrived during the hurricane season.

I don't know where you are traveling from so it's hard to judge how long a flight.
We traveled from NY and it took over 4 hours. We had no bad turbulence and we had a direct flight. We traveled in March so no hurricanes. Hurricane season is from June 1 to Nov 30th.
We loved Barbados and would go back again. We stayed in a All-Inclusive resort owed by the Elegant chain. The food was sooo good. We really enjoyed our time there.
If you go, have a great time.
