beside the eye is a tear duct...this is what releases the moisture to keep the eye wet and release excess tears if neccisary to clean dirt that gets on your eye.
It's a reaction that occurs under stress and pain the tear duct opens full bore, it's something that eveolved to help protect you whether you need it or not.

it is not water that comes out of our eye when we cry but tears, which is a secretion of the lacrimal gland present near the upper part of lateral canthus of the eye(lateral angle). it is a slightly acidic fliud containing lyzozyme which is antibacterial and prevents the eye from contracting infections. also has some sebaceous content which keeps the eye moist. in fact a thin layer of it is always present over our eyes to aid frictionless movt of the eyelids over it. when we cry however the sectretion increases and it flows out as tears.

Tears comes out of your eyes to keep it moist and wet ...
Tears are same as sweat : they take out the dirt from your body ..
There are tears when you cry and even when you laugh But both of them are different , according to some research when you cry your tears clean more dirt than tears while you laugh .

when we cry then a chemical substance is liberated from our eyes which we call it tears. This is liberated bcoz LACRIMAL GLAND is present under our eyelids above it so this lacrimal gland activates out tears and we feel cry.....
NOTE: when we cry it is not water instead it is a chemical substance..
