I would check out E&O Trading Company in downtown San Jose.

Also, 71 St. Peter.

Also, there are some excellent and unique restaurants in Santana Row, an upscale shopping/living/restaurant area.

At Santana Row, I have eaten at Staits, Blowfish, Village, Yankee Pier, Consuelo, Pasta Pomodoro. Out of those, the unique ones are Straits, Blowfish, and Consuelo. There are new restaurants also there that I have not tried.
Good luck! The Bay Area has wonderful food...

I would have to say Santana Row in San Jose. It has a ton of different unique restaurants. Not really any nightclubs except Rosie's but there are a few nice lounges.

Looks like we're all headed for Santana Row. santanarow.com/ The reasy why is that there are loads of great restaurants, some reasonable and some splurges, good for strolling around with lovely shops.
It would help to know what kind of food you like and if a night club, what kind of music. We have great variety here.
Enjoy your visit!

I just came back last week from San Jose. My cousin took us to a really good Mexican restaurant. Love Mexican food. It's all about the Fajita's! mmmm, but I can't remember the name. Sorry!
