I have three friends that are like this. It is getting to the point where I don't like to talk with them on the phone anymore at all. For instance. I will be at my daughter's day care ready to go in and get her, tell them that, and they say okay and keep talking. I can't take it anymore. Don't want to lose the friendships but it's ridiculous.

Just cut them off! Tell them you have to go and that you will call them later - and then hang up!!!

if they phone you at home just put down the phone and say your daughter tripped over the wire and pulled it out. But on a mobile you can make excuses: sorry ive gotta go and put the phone down. Say you have to talk to your daughters teacher. Say your in the car and a cops nearby or if you want to be mates with them, just tell them and explain to them about how you feel. If they really are your friends they'll understand and stop. Hope it works!

look on rachel rays website. i was watching her show the other day.. and there is a company that you can buy a cd from.. that plays sounds.. such as someone knocking on the door or a baby crying.. the sound is loud enough for the other person to hear, then you have an excuse to get off the phone.. isnt that a great idea.. just thought i would let you know.

Tell them that you have to go and hang up. They will get the point. I'm the one that doesn't stop talking, I know my best friend is busy so I don't take offense. She listens when she can, when she can't, she can't.. it happens..

I have a couple friends like this, too. basically you just have to be firm and quick.
Wait for a pause, or just interrupt her and quickly say "Gee, Sue, I'd *love* to hear more about this, I'm really sorry to cut this short, but I *really* need to dash - I'll talk to you later, okay? Bye!" Click. Don't wait for a response from them, just let them you need to hang up, and do it.

If you want, here are some good excuses as to why you need to hang up:
-I'm turning (or on the freeway) and need both hands to drive right now.
-My hands are full.
-I have someone standing right here.
-My battery is beeping at me, it's about to die.
-Call-waiting is beeping at me, I need to get this.
-My daughter is waving at me, I need to go.

I know exactly what you mean. You just have to interrupt and say I've got to go we can talk more later. Then say bye and hang up. I have friends like that to. I hate talking to them because all they wanna talk about is themselves. I simply speak above them and interrupt them saying, "Oh I'm sorry, I've got to go. I'll call you back later. Bye" Sometimes I call them back, most of the time I don't call them back.

Make up an excuse to hang up and if that doesn't work than try telling them that they talk too much but not aggressively, say it nice and calm.

get a candy wrapper and place it near the microphone of the phone (whatever u call it..) . Crumple that wrapper to make an annoying sound and just pretend that there's something wrong with the line and keep saying "hello, hello... i cant hear u... there's something wrong with the line... " then just hang up
