When making purchases online, is it better to use a credit card for security purposes? Do credit card companies have better policies on suspected fraudulent purchases than banks do with debit cards? Or is it all the same?

It is all the same nowdays. But here's the thing. If your debit card gets comprimised it will take time to sort out. If your credit card does it will take some time as well but you will still have your money to operate day to day.

So the best thing to do is use a credit card that you have specifically requested a low limit. If someone steals it online they can only go so far. It is easier to deal with them for $1000 than $20,000. Or go to the bank and ask for a basic savings account with an ATM card which is seperate from the main account.

credit and debit cards are the risk involved. Because they are attached to a bank account, loosing a debit card is very risky. A person does not need a pin number to use a debit card and therefore can easily drain a persons bank account, causing extreme problems.

With a credit card the only problem is proving that someone else used the card. With a debit card the persons has to figure out how to get their money back and if any checks bounced they are responsible for those as well. The legal liability is much greater with a debit card than with a credit card. Go to : http://www.credit-card-gallery.com/... and get a best credit card according your credit.

It's about the same, which is to say neither is really that great when it comes to suspected fraudulent purchases. Debit cards are in general safer, because you can't spend more than you have in the account, and banks in general have better security overall than credit card companies.

Security wise they are the same. They issue becomes what happens if there is fraud. The debit card will deplete your checking account causing bounced checks and embarresment. I would always use a credit card for any online transaction. Also, the credit card allows you to dispute a charge for up to sixty days, something a debit card is very hard to do.

Debit cards are better for online purchases. Your bank protects you under what's called Regulation E.

If you suspect fraud from using your debit card, the bank will get you your money back right away.

With credit cards, you could be liable for up to $50.

If you use your debit card online, check your bank account regularly for unauthorized transactions. They usually start small, under $1, and each week they get bigger and bigger until your account is drained.
