A "stub" answer in Wikepedia describes the area as follows:

"Toryglen is a small district in southern Glasgow, Scotland. It is approximately 2 miles south of the city centre to the west of Rutherglen, which is just over the city boundary in South Lanarkshire. It is bounded to the West by Mount Florida, the north by Oatlands and the south by Kingspark. The name 'Torryglen' first appeared on maps in the late 18th century and was a small farmhouse in the north of the present day area. Toryglen is a residential area built mainly south of Prospecthill Road between 1947 & 1959 by the Scottish Special Housing Association; however, the north of the district was constructed by the city authorities between 1963-68. Prospecthill Circus is a colourful collection of three 23 storey tower blocks and numerous deck access maisonettes. 'The Circus' is awaiting comprehensive redevelopment by the G.H.A. (Glasgow Housing Association). There is very little left of the old 'Circus' and the place is virtually unrecognisable from the way it was around 10 years ago. Toryglen is also home to some of the city's early experiments with multi-storey housing built around 1955. Population is approximately 7,000. The Toryglen pitches (across from Asda) are currently getting re-built into a sports centre, The Glasgow city council are hoping it will boost Glasgows chances of getting to host the Commenwealth games 2014. A derelict multi-storey awaiting demolition in Prospecthill Circus was recently used by SONY to create an advertisement for their BRAVIA range of Televisions. The commercial involved the blasting of paint onto disused buildings. Previews of this advert are available throughout popular internet video sites, like youtube. The full advert has now been made available on SONY's BRAVIA website, located here: http://www.bravia-advert.com/paint/thead/. The main tower block in the ad was demolished in a controlled explosion on January 21st 2007.

It does not sound like an especially prosperous place from that.
