What is their goal?

Al Qaeda and their linked groups are very clear about their goal- a Muslim waqf in which sharia law is the law and us non-Muslims are merely dhimmi (dhimmi have to pat special taxes, cannot hpld government jobs, cannot sit higher than a Muslim, cannot be a witness against a Muslim, cannot show any symbols of their religion in public, cannot discuss their religion in public, cannot practise their religion in public, cannot be members of the Judiciary or armed forces.) And unfortunately their goal shows how long they will be around- since it is never going to happen athat they will get the waqf they want, their form of terorrism is going to be with us for a very long time. People who think that it is related to the US being in any country do not know their hostory- like the Muslim fundamentalist terrorists in Yemen, Algeria, Sudan etc- all far away form anything to do with the USA.

With all due respect, you are asking the wrong questions.

Terrorists are after power. They feed on the hopelessness, poverty, and frustrations of people who are on the margins--who are oppressed or abandoned.

We'll always have some sociopaths around--the question SHOULD be: how do we keep them from becoming a real threat, building organizations, etc.

The answer is to get rid of the social conditions that breed such organizations. You NEVER see sustained terrorist groups among populations that have hope, economic oportunity, freedom. Only the occasional nut case (e.g. the Unibomber).

Find the areas tererorists can find safe haven. Bring in hospitals, sanitation, food, schools. Not as a "giveaway." As an investment--along with economic investment to create jobs, industry, etc. Projects that will pay off--both for us and the people.

And I do mean invest in PEOPLE--not in a few luxury hotels or other payoffs for whatever elite is in charge. That's what the Marshall plan did in Europe--what the rebuilding of Japan focused on--and our (US) aid to South Korea.

Military force is not the answer--it can do no more than dislodge a terror group for a time. And that may be required in some cases. Eliminating the problem requires that we build, not destroy.

There are many kinds of people under the Muslim faith. For starters there is a huge schism between Sunni and Shi'a. Also, each individual Muslim has as different a world view as each christian, atheist or zoroastrian does. That said, the correct terminology is militant, rather than terrorist. It is an epithet that describes an entity involved in attacks targeting civilians. Therefore it does not differentiate between the 9-11 hijackers and the Bush administration (carpet bombing isn't really aimed at isolated soldiers, is it?).
Now, are we clear? use the right word and you will get some answers.... from my own reading it seems unsubstantiated to claim Muslim militants are bent on world conquest. Simply because it is unrealistic. If they had the gun power the US has and had doctrines that implied global ambitions (such as NSC 68)... then maybe i would believe it.
I think they just want the US and UK to get out of their holy land... a good many of them are less than friendly to Israel, but that is something that should be solved through diplomacy. If terrorism is used again, police action should be taken against the perpetrators... oh, and i find it hard to believe militants are too happy about US funding of dictators and murderers all over the world.

When will they stop? When they get what they want, which is a one world government based on sharia law. That is their goal.

And for the post about their being terrorists because they were bombed, when was Osama Bin Laden bombed? He comes from a wealthy Saudi family. He is, like the rest, a fanatic and you cannot talk to fanatics. And to the even stranger person who believes that it will stop when Bush does. Have you ever read any history? The first attack on the WTC was before Bush was president. It has nothing to do with who is in charge in the West. They hate the West because we are infidels who must be killed.

Their goal is evil, it won't stop until the Christ comes down to stay in His actual return. Until then expect more of the same, from anyone with a hate on for the world, not just the muslims.

We can't force "Democracy/Christianity" onto the Muslims. Would we not fight back if they tried forcing Islam down our throats?

I, like many others, believe this will stop when Bush and the Repubicans are no longer in office.

On a side note, compare our "Patriot Act" 's recommendations per Mr. Bush's plan to Hitler's version of Germany's "Patriot Act" of 1933. Notice the link to the familiar faces tied to Communism: Bush, Rove, Scwartzenegger. (ALL Republicans!)

The Emergency Decree stated: "Restrictions on personal liberty, on the right of free expression of opinion, including freedom of the press; on the rights of assembly and association; and violations of the privacy of postal, telegraphic and telephonic communications and warrants for house searches, orders for confiscations as well as restrictions on property, are also permissible beyond the legal limits otherwise prescribed."

Mecca is going to be the next target. It's only a matter of time...

Piss us off and you'll go down in history like the rest.

only way to stop it is to wipe out all radical thinking muslims, these are the people that raise their children in a brain washing environment to inflict as much death on any1 different from themselves in the false promise that they will receive rewards for this in the afterlife
