one of my teachers started getting really fat and my friends and I didn't know if she was just fat or pregnant but we recently found out that she's pregnant!! we just found this out yesterday. before everyone found out, she said she was just gaining lots of weight. why would someone try to hide their pregnancy?

Many women won't talk about their pregnancies before they are at least into their second trimester -- because of the possibility of miscarriage, etc.
And many professional women will outright lie about their pregnancies in order to avoid conflict with their employer during a stressful time. They wait until it's unavoidable to bring it up.
And your teacher may just be a private person, and not care to discuss her pregnancy at school.

I'm not an attention seeker so I didn't want to shout my pregnancy from the roof tops in front of people I didn't know too well, including my co-workers. If she lied about it, there must be a good reason. It doesn't mean she was ashamed. I'm just a private person and liked carrying around this sweet secret for the first 5 months!

well how old is she? most women older and younger dont like to expose their news of being pregannt till after month 3 cause after then your chances of misscarrying has dropped a great percentage. I guess people just dont want to say anything till then just incase they do misscarry then they will have to explain and always be brought up everytime someone who dosnt know what happened.... i dont think people want that as a constant reminder..

Maybe she didn't know until recently. A friend of mine didn't know she was pregnant until she was actually HAVING THE BABY! She thought she was getting really fat too. She had regular periods never had morning sickness... none of the normal signs. Or maybe she just didn't want nosy kids in her business!!

1. she didn't want her superiors to know (fear of losing teaching assignment)
2. she didn't want to distract you
3. she was afraid of losing the baby and having to explain it later
