Use the "rhythm" method. No side effects at all.

both have side effects but in most cases the side effects of the patch are greater. If you're interested in the patch because of the convenience of the whole once a week idea, I recommend nuvaring, which is a plastic ring that is inserted into the vagina much like a tampon. it's left in place for 21 days, removed for 7, then the cycle begins again. It works hormonally, like the pill and the patch but has much lower levels of hormones, so side effects a (usually) less severe. All 3 (pill patch and ring) are about equally effective: about 98-99% effective.

I just checked back on some answers.... just would like to point out, if you go with nuvaring DO NOT remove it during sex. It is not meant to be removed at all during those 21 days. you're asking for trouble if you take it out during sex. I believe it recommends something like no more that 5-10 minutes outside the body... and that is only if it slips out accidentily.

They both have the same side effects as they are both hormone contraceptives. The only difference between the two is one is in pill form and the other is in patch aka transdermal form. If your wife has trouble remember to take pills at the same time every day then the patch would be better but if that isn't a problem then either one is ok.

all birthcontroll has the side effects so there is no way to go about it. there are pros and cons to both that your wife should decide. Where to keep the patch? i had it once and wanted it where no one could see it so i put it on my a$$. bad idea. As you wear pants/underwear they will rub and make the patch stick to the pants and your a$$ and when you pull pants down in a rush to go to the bathroom! OUCH! and taking it off sucks too. Leaves like the glue mark.. like a baindaid and its one hell of a task to remove it. The patch can also cause blood clots so thats why they recommend you to NOT put it certain places but still can get them. The pill.... i loved the pill but its a matter of if she will remember everyday about the same time to take it so there arent any surprises!
My best friends sister got pregnant on the pill but she missed a few days here and there na dthey usually recommend waiting a month before having unprotected sex to make sure its all in your system. I saw a commercial for Loestrin24 have your wifey check it out.....

I had the patch and I felt strange a lot. Really messes with your hormones, I did some research a while back-could not find much good. How about low dose birth control? Not sure which is safest.

I used the patch and it never stayed on for a week. If she works out or takes baths, I would not reccomend the patch.

Pills have to be taken every day close to the same time. I would chose the pill over the patch anytime.

I am on the nuva ring, and I have no side effets and no problems. It s the easiest for me, because you have to put it in for 3 weeks and take it out for 1. (I also take it out for sex)

Oral contraceptives are 95% effective, and patches are 99% effective. Although patches can fall off and cause blood clots, while if she takes the pills, there is only a 5% chance that it won't work.

My physican did not presecribe me the patch because I was told you have a higher risk of blood clots. She has started me off with the pill which is quite effective if used properly. However, eventually she told me that I will be put on the nuvaring. I guess that is the best one. Talk to your doctor about the nuvaring.

Whatever you do don't use the patch, I had severe side effects. I was lightheaded, grouchy, had very heavy periods. It would also fall of whenever I took a bath.

When I used the patch, it stuck on like glue. I hated it. When I tried to take it off, I soaked in our hot tub, and pulled it off in the shower, and it still hurt like hell. It left one of those adhesive marks for like a week afterwords... I like my low does pills.... :)
