How do i know if my turtle is going to lay eggs?

She spit out some blood from her tail area and there is what looks like an egg in her tail area, but she has sucked it back in a few times.

Eggs are big ping-pong ball like things that they do not suck back up. You can tell when a female is pregnant because you will see bulging by the legs and easily feel the eggs there.

This sounds more like a 'prolapse'- an internal organ poking out. If it was dark, it is probably the penis. Otherwise, it could be an intestine. They sometimes prolapse when there is a minor blockage- usually from gravel.

If there is blood present and you think you saw an egg then I would suggest a vet visit ASAP. She may be egg bound which is a condition where the female can not pass the egg for one reason or another. It is very serious and should be dealt with immediately. I wish you luck.
