You can plant more than one type of plant in a container. Crossing of flavors in between tomatoes and herbs isn't going to happen. What is going to happen is that you have twice as many mouths to feed. Two plants eat more than one, so you'll need to watch your fertilizing a little closer.
try to keep your tomatoes upright. Herbs won't appreciate tomatoes hanging all over them (they like sun!)

This is not a good idea. Tomatoes dont even like dirt on the underside of their leaves. Splashing dirt often carries viruses. Also, bugs will hide in the flowering plants and will have shelter. With the added heighth under the tomatoes, it will be just like a stepladder to the fruit and leaves. And last, other plants will be competing for the nutrients in the soil that the tomatoes so dearly need to produce good fruit.

I would not advise it. Planting herbs in with the tomatoes would cause the chance of flavors (herbs) getting into the tomatoes. Thats why you don't plant peppers too close to tomato plants. It will also cause a "fight" for water in all the plants since they are in a container. Tomato plants are usually very leafy and would block sun for the herbs.

Sure you can plant your herbs with the tomatoes but i would keep herbs with herbs....how about using marigolds....they help keep critters from eating out of your garden as well as adding some color..

If your containers are big enough plant some marigolds, they will repel bugs and bloom for you---the other things you mentioned will also work.
