You might be fine. Typically a woman who is giving birth to her first child will be in labor around 12 hours. However, every woman is different and for some it may be only a couple of hours or even longer than 12. Maybe you can skip lunch and leave early today, your boss might understand.
Congrats to everyone though, it is really exciting.

It depends on how long she's been in labor. Is she just getting the first contractiosn now or did she sit and wait them out at home? There are three stages of labor-- the first one, in which the contractiosn start far apart and get closer and closer together can take 6+ hours and most people like to wait it out at home until they're closer together.
However some people only have labor from start to finish for 2-4 hours (LUCKY!!) so its hard to say. If the contractions are still far apart, you've got plenty of time. See if you can get an update in a couple hours.

She could have a long time or a little time left. Generally, the first labor is the longest so that's on your side. But it also depends on how long she labored at home before heading to the hospital. Just try to get an update from her after she's checked at the hospital and take it from there.

it depends how far along and how dilated she is. if 1-3 cm you have a while. if 7-10 you need to get going. plus first time moms push for 45 min to 2 hrs. when i got to the hosptal first baby, i left at 1 in the morning and had my son at 11:25 in morning. find out how dilated she is and how fast she progresses. leave for the hospital when she is about 8 cm. hope it helped

I bet you're on pins and needles! No telling how long she's in labor. I just had a friend who woke up at 8am. Her water broke in the night. They drove their older child to the sitters. Got to the hospital and in the observation room delivered at 9:30!

They always say your first takes longer, but I only had 12 hours from my first pain until delivery, I checked in at 6:00 and she was born at 11:39 so my hospital time before birth was not as long as expected for 1st baby. Go with your instinct, if you feel you should be there then go.

Figure another hour for every centimeter she still needs to dialate, if she's at 4, she has 5 to go so another 5 hours. My guess is you have plenty of time, just keep getting updates as to her progression and you can judge by that. Wish her luck and tell her congrats.
