You can make it a lot better.I used to go to parents groups and stop going because so much negativism.I follow my own instints(after all Im the person who knows my child best)and Im doing everything that feels right for me.DAN protocol is a must if you really want to make a diference.Autism does not just affect the brain it also affects the inmunological system and the organs in the body(check april07 DISCOVERY MAGAZINE articule "Autism not just in the head" where this is explain)Lab test are done BEFORE to see if your child has high levels of toxic metals due to vaccinations and the enviroment they also check for yeast overgrowth(very common among kids in the spectrum)food allergies...so your DAN doctor can recomend probiotics, multivitamins, enzimes and Chelation (Im doing this with patch others do it with oils, oral and IV the last one I wont recomend on very young children. If you dont have a DAN doctor start by giving your child fish oil(very important:mercury-free..please!!)and remove casein from your kid diet.My son finally slept well after I removed the casein. The food your kid craves the most is usually what the allergic to.Your doc will recomend a CFGF Diet (casein-gluten free diet).Im taking CFGF diet to the next level by doing B.E.D diet which eliminates the yeast and allergies but you have to go slow and just if your child has this problem which i very common.Feed your child as natural as possible and organic avoid processed food, artificial sugars.I heard also about a diet call feingold or something like that.As for therapies is always better 1:1 and home-based if possible. There is Floor time,P.L.A.Y.,ABA,RDI and Autism Treatment Center of America Son-Rise Program.I chose son-rise for my son and started 3 months ago and he is making wonderful progress he starting to say his first words!! .There are kids who had fuly recovered from autism from all diferent programs and you can watch them at this website http://www.autism-recoveredchildren.com/
People will tell you bad things about every program according to their very subjective opinion as in my case just to find out that people like to talk without really knowing.Dont let them slow your search.I will recomend you to find out information by yourself about each program costs,scholarships,approach...etc..and remember is finding the program that fits best your child and not the otherway around.Every child is so diferent. There are many kids who had fully recovered other almost recovered the important thing is to help them reach their full potential wherever that one is for your child .So cheer up and hold your beautiful child's hand and guide him/her.You are his/her only streigth.Believe in your child potential. They are very perceptive show a positive actitud and he will trust you and will be more open to you and to this world.Don't let anyone dictate your child future or potential. And trust yourself.Wish you the best. For information on the treatments listed above and morego to this link:

Is Autism Curable

I agree mostly with the two answerers above. It is not a disease and cannot be cured. You will see things all over the internet claiming to be the "cure" and loaded with testimonials but these have all been proven ineffective in treatment of autism. They are mostly quacks going after your money, so beware. Many of these treatments are downright dangerous, too such as chelation. There are services that are provided through the educational system that would most likely benefit the child like speech and occupational therapy.

Most important is to know your child's rights and getting him or her the services that they need. It's an uphill battle because there are many ignorant people you will have to deal with along the way but getting the child in the best learning environment with the appropriate services are critical. When a child is in a good environment and the team of educators and you are in sync, great things will happen. The hardest part is getting to that point.

No, there is no cure, however there are many therapies and treatments available. The cause of autism is unknown, and it's diagnosis rate is on the rise dramatically!
Treatment of autism varies. There is a special diet one could follow, pressure therapy, and of course medications.
People with autism vary widely in their symptoms, some are quite "normal" while others are severly affected and require 24 hour care.

No, autism is NOT curable. I am a nanny to a wonderful 6 year old boy who was diagnosed with Autism at 18 months when he began to regress. His mother and father have turned to all kinds of treatments, some which seem probable and others I cannot even imagine. The other people are correct that there are SOOO many people willing to take advantage of parents who looking for answers. They have spent over $50,000 on "treatments" many with those psycho DAN! doctors (please do NOT get involved with them). I hate to admit they even went through chelatin therapy to remove all of these "heavy metals" from his body and he is always "detoxicing". I am so saddened at this little boy who I still watch. He is on a gluten-free, dairy free (I for one believe in dairy free diet especially for autistic children suffering from intense middle ear infections), casein free, sugar free diet. It is sad to see first hand how people have taken advantage of grieving parents so please be careful. Remember that autism is NOT curable however you can get "better". I would encourage OT, speech therapy, sign language etc. If you have any more questions please feel free to contact me.

No it's not curable, and it's not classified as a disease either. There are really no magical treatments either....the child is put into special education school or classes that match how severe their disability is. From there on (again depending on the autistics needs) speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and everyday living skills are covered.

Every autism case is different and every autistic child's needs are going to vary widely. There's no one answer to a question like this...the parents of autistic children need professional assistance in finding the right solution for their child.

I agree with JW.You need to follow DAN!Protocol. Many children are out of the spectrum today while others made dramatic improvements able them to have a better quality of life.Find an intensive program.Good luck!

It WILL be treatable in the future. Rett Syndrome (the most severe Autistic Spectrum Disorder) is genetic and has been recently reversed in mice.
