Any formula with DHA and ARA is currently the closest there is. If you check the ingredients and nutrients you'll find that the generic is the same as the name brand, it just costs less because they don't advertise or give out all the freebies. We use the Kirkland (Costco) brand, which I've heard is made by Similac, and are happy with that.

I'm sorry to hear that breastfeeding didn't work out. I'd ask your doctor what brand he/she recommends first. My doctor's recommendation was Lipil too, but from what I see it is all a matter of what your baby tolerates. They are all (and should be) based on cow's milk and have the same amount of nutrients (and should have) as well as DHA and ARA. There is not one formula that is an exact carbon copy of your milk. If your baby is doing good on the Lipil, then continue to use it. You wouldn't want to switch formula brands willy nilly, and especially not without notifying your doctor.

Enfamil with dha and ara is one I recommend (as a former breastfeeding mom that had issues with pumps when going back to work). It doesn't STINK like similac, it is a much finer powder (similac reminds me of corn meal) and my children didn't spit up nearly as much with it.

There are no formulas that have the living antibodies and changable nutrition of breastmilk.

Usually you don't have to wean because of a breast infection. In fact, it usually makes them worse.

If you are better now, would you consider feeding him at the breast again?

You could start by getting a Supplemental Nursing System and giving him formula at the breast. This would help build your supply and get him back to nursing.

almost all formulas claim to be the best but any formula with DHA and ARA are the best for babies, they are more expensive but worth it. Try using either Good start with DHA and ARA or Simialac advanced.
