Because bob forgot he hates raisins, and even if these were magical raisins, which the asker did not explicitly state, gum still lasts longer for chewing.

Though there are less pieces of gum(5) to more raisins(8), and flavor quality not in the outcome, the chewing gum still would last longer over the eaten raisins.
