i have about 14 tattoos and i am a licensed/professional body piercer.
firstly, do NOT listen to these people telling you to get it on your butt. i have seen MANY women at my shop getting thier butts tattooed and all they did was moan scream and complain. I would say to get it on your upper arm. That was the least painful place for me and most of the people i know or have seen getting that area tattooed.i agree to make sure you research your tattoo parlor first. talk to the people make sure its clean and feel free to ask them AS MANY questions as you want. a clean/professional shop with competent and properly knowledgable employees should be able to answer all your questions. and should not seem agitated that your asking so many.

Well, no matter where you go its gonna be painful. What you need to look into is where is the CLEANEST place to get a tattoo?

Some places are soo dirty (and even if you cannot see it they are) that you can get an infection and that will be more painful than getting a tatoo. Some places use the same needles they used previously, others simply do not clean up properly. No matter what the reason most are dirty, some don't even take or pass the inspection.

Do what you want. If you want a tattoo, get a tattoo!

I am covered with them! I can tell you that everywhere hurts to get tatted, however some places just hurt more: feet, hands, armpits. Depending on how your body works, many people say that it hurts more when you get close to bone. I just have different descriptions on the type of pain different areas have. Like I have felt deep sharp pain in my upper thigh, stinging intense muscle flexing pain in the side of my upper thigh, numbing sandpaper rubbing on my skin pain on my feet (the feet and inside of my hand were by far the worst next to the side of my stomach), quivering intense nearly unbearable pain in my side almost at my rib cage...I could go on and on...Remember though this is my body.

It also depends on your pain tolerance. I find that women handle tattoos better then men and I have heard many others say that as well.

rivertam666 is wrong though, if you walk into a shop and they are using the same needles from previous tattoos...we'll just say that is third world or very unlikely. It takes somebody who isn't educated on tattoos to make a statement like that!

Places will sterilize everything before they use it on you (needles, barrels, etc.) Make sure they open the package in front of you. If it is sealed it is safe and sterile. If you ask them to see the package and open the needle package in front of you they shouldn't have a problem with that.

Also, go to a place that you know others have got tattooed. Look at the portfolios of the artist. Artists have different styles so if you want to make sure it turns out the way you want it pay close attention to the style the artist has.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!

and yes, the butt hurts...not the worst, but definitely hurts...

Lets face it, its a tattoo, Its gonna hurt! But I truly believe that the outside of the upper arm will be the least pain full place. And then maybe the buttocks (butt cheeks).Just remember everybody has their own degree of pain tolerance. And getting a tattoo isn't something you should rush into.Make sure its something you really want, after all you are gonna have to live with it for a long time!!

Don't get a tattoo!

In Rome only the criminals, soldiers, and gladiators got tattooed, and they were stigmaitized for it. In fact the Roman Latin word for tattoo was 'stigma'.

In the U.S. only bikers, convicts, prostitutes, sailors, and riffraff get a tattoo.
