Government for the people is gone. It is government for the career politicians and their supporters, the rest of us just get to pay the bills. Until we eliminate corrupt careerists in Congress this will not chance. There are a couple of ways to do this, scream and shout constantly about term limits and a constitutional convention. Be prepared to be viciously attacked by the socialists who intend on remaining control of your life and money for ever.

We have to have term limits, it is the only cure for what is wrong with America today.

The real problem in America is stupidity, special interest and/or laziness of the voter. How does a person who takes bribes on video, laughs about the ineptness of the FBI and puts $100K in a freezer get elected 8 times? And then the Senate leaders yell and scream about separation of powers. Yes they are right, it is about their power and even if it is against the law, you will not thwart their power.

You have career politicians running the government, not citizen legislators. Many accuse the career corporate CEO of only working for themselves, not the stockholders. Career politicians are NO different and they seem to think they are above the law and expect preferential treatment. If the only issue to remaining in power is to obtain cash, buy some votes with special interests and have the media spotlight, then the incumbent has it easy, all at your expense.

In the Senate there are:
44 Dems averaging 20.8 years in Congress
55 Reps averaging 16.1 years in Congress

these numbers begin to make it look like career politicians are in control, who have lost touch with you the citizen and are more entrenched in their own careers.

For the Senate, if you were to use two terms or 12 years in Congress as a term limit
25 Dems would need to leave and 25 Reps would need to leave.
Those Dems are averaging 27.1 years in Congress
Those Reps averaging 24.0 years.

80% of Dems in the Senate have been there more than 12 years
58% of Repubs have.

46% of Dems in the House have been there more than 12 years
32% of Repubs have.

Ben Franklin said of congress, "They are of the People, and return again to mix with the People, having no more durable preeminence than the different Grains of Sand in an Hourglass. Such an Assembly cannot easily become dangerous to Liberty. They are the Servants of the People, sent together to do the People's Business, and promote the public Welfare; their Powers must be sufficient, or their Duties cannot be performed. They have no profitable Appointments, but a mere Payment of daily Wages, such as are scarcely equivalent to their Expences; so that, having no Chance for great Places, and enormous Salaries or Pensions, as in some Countries, there is no triguing or bribing for Elections"

If you like the current political system continue voting along partisan lines. If however you are tired of the corrupt ways of elections and would like to see Franklins words be true again, vote for change.

Our country is being run by career politicians who for the most part appear to have lost touch with what you want, and are focused on what they want.

You can change this NOW.
1. Quit your partisan sniping, it is childish and only serves to remove the focus from the real problem in America.
2. Enlist your friends and family in the fight and ask them, if they agree about Congress to do the same.
3. Vote against the person who has 12 or more combined years in Congress
4. This will require in many instances you having to vote for someone outside of your normal party, but you are a patriot and you can do what is right.

Show congress in this next election that we the people are running things in this country, not career politicians. And we are going to do what is right.

I will end now with a favorite quote of mine.

“If a legislator is "safe" from competition, or if he represents groups with the same economic and political beliefs, he does not have to change his ideas or respond to the needs of the broader population. He can rest content with a mediocre, absentee performance knowing he will be returned to office. And as he is returned year after year the seniority system gives him immense control over people from other parts of the country whose views he need not heed at all.” -Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Decisions for a Decade

To some extent, you are correct.

I believe the country use to be more cohesive, especially when it came to defending the country or the culture but this hasn't been the case since the 60's.

There has been and always will be partisan bickering.

If you don't believe that your political ideals and values are worth spreading to others and having the country adopt them then what is the purpose of having elections?

I wish there was more cohesiveness among Americans when it came to the basic ideals our country was founded on and standing up for the United States.

This is clearly the best country on the planet and the reason behind that is the people and especially our founding fathers who setup such a unique and wonderful system.

Part of the problem, without getting into too much detail, is the fact that Americans are not being educated properly and learning the history of the United States and understanding its' foundation.

Although you do have a valid point, look around the world.
The USA is still the best country in the world! OK, One of the best! Don't want to offend anyone. OH, and my last comment, that's the problem here - we are too busy trying not to offend anyone that we let bad things happen to America. Just watch, it'll get worse if we don't stop being so politically correct.
On the lighter side, I just heard a good joke. People from Kentucky now want to be called "Appalachian Americans" LOL!

The US Constitution set up a brilliant government not only for, by, and of the people, but in spite of them as well. The framers new that there would be bad presidents, judges, and congresspeople. They knew that people be derisive, divisive, and impassioned over trivial matters. But the brilliance of it all is that the government still works despite all of that.

And I don't think the politics of 2007 are any more mean-spirited than the politics of yesteryear. Government's always been a very dirty business.

I agree, when it comes down to it we all are here like it or not. The last two administrations have been lightning rods for this side and that. It is the old rule of divide and conquer. As long as dems fight reps, and middle class fights the poor, so on and so on, we do not pay attention to what is really going on within our government. Both parties push through ridiculous spending bills that spread our tax dollars like peanut butter. But when they have a pressing need instead of cutting the useless programs and finding money they cut the useful ones and then raise taxes. We need to pay more attention to what the gov is spending on, voting on, and what tensions they are creating through their policy in what foreign land.

We are being betrayed by politicians who no longer listen to the people. All they care about is getting money from the multinational corporations who own our politicians. Right now the Kennedy/Bush/McCain Illegal alien amnesty bill is being prepared against the wishes and best interests of the majority of Americans. Most Americans don't want to give citizenship to 12 to 28 million illegal immigrants who are mostly poor, ignorant, and unskilled. Our corporations want these illegals to keep coming in great numbers in order to keep the wages down for working class Americans. The number of visas for skilled foreign workers will soon be greatly increased in order to keep the wages down for highly-paid skilled American workers.

You see the trend. The giant corporations get rich while the averge American gets screwed. We have got to get rid of Bush and his incompetent administration, and we must fight this amnesty bill. Contact your reps at

i think people like you and i are a dying breed my friend. it's all about power and how much money is in your pocket. right after 9/11 all that stuff didn't matter. but, as usual, it didn't last long. and it is both sides of the aisle that is to blame. at least, certain people on both sides. seems the biggest idiots and morally deprevated politicians are the ones with the biggest voices. people like you and i need to be the loud ones. then, maybe, things will turn around.

Longhair, you're an airhead. This division started long before Bush came into office, I would say more like under Nixon, during the Vietnam war when all the peaceniks came out from under their rock and refused to let us win the war, like we should have.

It isn't going down, but. I consider we will avert it. We nonetheless have a few stability within the system. If the Right keeps, it is going to occur. That is what they desire to do with anybody who does no longer be given their political fact, or their devout fact. It is gloomy. I nonetheless consider we do have 'em at the ropes. It is just a subject of time till they're out of energy.

In 1960, Premier Nikita Kruschev pounded the podium at a UN assembly meeting and declared, "we will bury you".
During the early sixties, our fathers and grandfathers worried about 'creeping socialism' (with good cause, BTW).
It has happened, the communistic forces have conquered without firing a shot; socialism has crept upon us (U.S., that is) and as a result, there is open bitterness and breach between formerly co-existing political factions.
