Your best bet would be to say,"Heh, heh, just preparing for Halloween a bit early this year. Life like isn't it, I think I even got the smell just right too, don't you think?" Personally, bringing the body back to your house was a bit of a mistake, you should have dumped it in an unmarked grave a few towns over, but the damage is done. Oh, yeah, if that doesn't work, what's one more body, right?

tell him that you were bringing home a quarted cow from the butcher (to explain the bloody trail, and the 'body') and then invite him over for dinner, and have meat loaf.
grab his paper, and take it over to him, good conversation starter.
