Cinderella, The Sword in the Stone, and Lord of the Rings are my fave. Sorry, I just can't pick one. When I was younger I loved Cinderella b/c there was music, fairies, true love, magic, and action.

The Last Unicorn. I think it's a lovely allegory of the frustration of the immortal soul in a mortal body. It was written in modern times though.

Of old fairy tales, I love the tale of Jumping Mouse, which is a Native American story about following one's own spirit.

Of European fairy tales, I love Vassilisa the Wise, for the teaching that it gives young women in their coming of age (from Women Who Run with the Wolves).

I like Vassilia and Baba Yaga, because the heroine shows such courage and endurance, walking into a terrifying place bravely, and coming out safely by faith and goodness and fortitude. East of the Sun West of the Moon is another one I like, for pretty much the same reasons.

Snow white, because in the real story, not the movie, she awakes when the apple chunk is dislodged from her throat. The Prince did not really save her, symbolic of the fact that no woman needs a man to save her. She just needs to be more careful when eating apples. Especially poisoned ones.

Neil Gaiman's Stardust.

It's got everything a fairy tale should have: Star crossed love, fairies (duh), evil witches, goblins, scheming nobles, magic trees, as well as the exciting revelations of ancestry at the end.

I just hope they don't screw up the movie.

Bluebeard - because the heroine's brothers kill her brute of a husband, and she gets to keep the castle and all the riches!

Thumblelina, because it's such a sweet story.

Shrek! :D

It's about being happy with who you are and loving the whole person, even if it's an ogre :)

And Donkey is just hilarious!
