I'm reading everywhere that it is so important to start taking prenatal vitamins at least 3 months before conceiving. I just started the vitamins a couple of days ago and wondering how bad it would be if I was to get pregnant at the end of this month? I only know of a few women who had been taking vitamins for over three months before getting pregnant. Most women aren't even taking vitamins when they get pregnant....so, I'm wondering......

What does everyone think of prenatal vitamins? Why do they say at least three months?

Thanks!

Prenatal vitiamins, specifically folic acid, help the baby when it attaches to the lining of the uterus. The folic acids aides in the baby fully attaching--as well as progestorone.

Folic acid also prevents spina bifida which is caused by "improper" attachments.

I think you will be fine as long as you start taking prenates now. Besides, several women do not start prenates until after they find out they are pregnant. There have been millions of heatlhy babies born to these women.

I am sure that doctors tell people to take prenates three months in advance because there is a minimal risk of problems assoicated with not having enough folic acid in your system. Just as they are required to tell you about side effects of certain medications--IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU WILL HAVE ANY. On the plus side, you can get folic acid from food, too..

Good luck.

Starting early will get the vitamins in your system that the baby will need when you do get pregnant. They say three months so you can build them up and get your body prepared. That's also why they tell you that you shouldn't drink/smoke while trying, and should eat healthier.

Think about the women who don't know right away their pregnant, and they haven't taken prenatal vitamins. Ultimately, they're good for you, and you should be taking them if you're trying, because it is better for you, and for the baby when you do get pregnant.

The OTC ones are simply as well because the prescribed ones. The OTC ones have all of the nutrients that you just and little one want. The prescribed ones probably have a little bit extra nutrients in them. So both method your well. I get the One A Day prenatal nutrients, $thirteen for a month provide.
