Honestly, it depends on your subject matter, how much competition you have, how effective you can be in marketing...a world of things. I write niche romantic fiction, sell it on Lulu and my own website. It is a good second income.

There are many self-publishing companies, but the only name I recall is www.lulu.com. Do a web search for "book self-publishing" to find others and compare the prices and features.

While I have heard of people breaking even on self-publishing, I believe it's rare to actually make a profit.

Is it possible? of course it is. Is it worth it? Depends on how hard you are willing to work.

Do you know anything about the industry? Do you know anything about book design? Do you know anything about copy editing? Do you know anything sales? Do you know how to write a press release? Do you know what a media kit is? Do you have money to pay for comp copies to reviewers? Do you have money to pay for advertising? Can you take public criticism without blowing a gasket? Are you prepared to have a book reviewer tear your book apart? Ar you prepared to be "called out" when someone points out the fifty typos in your book? If you answered "no" to any of those questions, you will be in for a rough ride.

Self-publishing is NOT a short cut to publication. It is a process some people use depending on their objectives. There are sites like lulu.com that cost nothing to sign up and publish. Guess what? 90% of the books look like people spend nothing on them, too.

Believe it or not the easiest way is to start your own web site. You'd learn sooo much by doing this and it would offer you all of the profits and rewards.

properly, if an author did not have a writer then his or her e book might by no potential be heard of. If a properly-accepted author did this their followers might recognize with reference to the pdf record and get carry of it, yet greater modern writers might have not any followers and no person might purchase their e book.
