How important is your state? Do you percieve yourself as being a citizen of America before a citizen of your state, or does your state mean more to you than the US in general?
(i.e. are you firstly an American, or, for example, a Californian?)

Most people perceive themselves as Americans first. However, most are generally proud of their states. I have traveled quite a bit and there are some cultural differences from state to state. I am from North Carolina and often travel to California. Definite difference between them. Californians are very liberal and North Carolinians are conservative.

I definately consider myself a Californian before I consider myself an American, but that's because I am one of those rare California natives with a rich family history within a few hours drive of my home.

I actually think of myself as a citizen of the world rather than a Californian or American or Caucasian. Learning about where my friends and coworkers are from is wonderful and I love to learn about different areas and cultures, but the bottom line is that we all have the same needs and desires.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all thought globally rather than locally?

I love being an american, But I LOVE being a CALIFORNIAN, simply because we have everything we need right here in our state. We have the people power to impeach the wrong governer and we have a variety of people. And Hollywood, is a little drive away.... moutains are a little drive away, and some of the most beautiful scenery... I think i am very proud to be both.

Well I live in Oregon and I have always referred to it as "the Shire of America." Green as far as you can see, very beautiful. I call myself an American, but will always be an Oregonian first and foremost in my heart.

Most people are in their state because of their work and not because they want to be there, It is not where you live but with whom and if you feel secure and safe and loved.
