They just asked this question to some Mariners last night on a spring training broadcast. They said 1) be polite, 2) know the name of the player you're asking, and 3) be patient.

Understand that they have a job to do and they don't have all the time in the world to drop what they're doing and sign for you. Don't get an autograph and go "who are you?" They said the best time to ask is about 10-15 minutes before gametime when they're just chillin' in the dugout with nothing to do.

Get involved in the participant. initiate chatting with them. there exchange right into a baseball participant that i exchange into as quickly as speaking too lots. His call exchange into Steve Bechler and he exchange right into a September call up. He performed for the Orioles in a sport at yankee stadium. I talked to him and have been given to renowned him slightly. i found out that he exchange right into a huge Dodger fan and stuff like that. after all that I have been given a pair autographs. Very Very regrettably he died of a warmth stroke interior right here spring guidance. ;(

Send cards w/ SASE's to the teams stadium, c/o the player you want. I have had good luck with this. Don't send very valuable cards though, cause you may never see them again. Also, many teams have festivals meant just for getting autographs. i live in MN and we wait outside the players entrance sometimes and score many signatures. Just be very polite, patient, and appreciative and any of these methods works. i know from experience!

BTW, when sending by mail, I would try to get second teir guys that don't recieve a ridiculous amount of fan mail, you'll have a lot better chance at minor stars... get the big guys in person. I have had great luck w/ minor stars like Garrett Anderson, Aaron Sele, Jamie Moyer, Jose Reyes. If you try to get Arod, Pujols, etc, they get sooo much mail, you have less of a chance.

Have an eager child keep yelling at the player. Make sure when he's yelling he is polite though.
