why do catwalk and magazine models never smile or and why does victoria beckham never smile? :S they all look fake ..

Because if they smiled that would mean they are real and not robots, which is what the designers want them to look like.

i think that models never smile to creat a sophisticated clean cut look because the music is very sophisticated and mod a the clothes clean cut a lot of times so the smile wouldn't match and the other reason that they might not smile is because when the clothes are to extravegant it would be just be to much to add a smile.

Models on the catwalk and in the magazines are subject to what the designers and photgraphers want. They don't decide how to pose or how to look. Photographers and designers don't want the models to stand out they want their designs or pictures to stand out, so the models are there basically as walking manicans (sp).

smiling is a very good way of selling products which means it is a commercial model pose! if you want to sell editorial products like in a vogue magazine you've got to look less likable more enviable- if that's how you spell it! editorial models aren't paid to look happy they're paid to look different! That's why all the models are always like oh she's pretty no wait she's weird looking oh no wait yeah she is pretty! but commercial is just like she's pretty!

Models are not supposed to be too pretty or stand out too much as it would then detract from the product that they are wearing or showing off. The manufacturers want people to see the products not the model.

The main goal of all models is to act sophisticated, and very mature. If they dont smile, and act serious, it makes them look this way. It flaunts whatever the are modeling, and improves their chances of modeling more and making more $.

Because they are Starving ! You've seen how skinny they are, they don't eat ! That would make Anybody unhappy.
As a man, I find girls that are as skinny as those models, Ugly. Where the heck is the shape and form? it's gone if a woman doesn't eat .
Those model,s starve, and then they have to walk downa runway with clothes that look like some school-boy nerd made.
How bout seeing real clothing styles, on beautifull women whom are not afraid to eat !!!

It makes them look more mysterious and it makes them seem cool and relaxed, not ultra happy and fake.
Oh, and for all of the people who said that models don't eat, many of them do. A few of my cousins are models and they eat like normal, healthy people, so don't stereotype models as anorexic.

speed has overpowered their anorexic thinking minds and caused them to only think about how their over caked on makeup looks rather than the actual picture. models are naturally ugly!

Because smiling creases the skin and creasing the skin makes it look like you have wrinkles - fake audible gasp- they don't want that!
