The Flaming Lips sound a lot like Blind Melon. They are a little "out there", but pretty close to what you're looking for.

Sunny Day Realestate is another good band sorta like blind melon and janes addiction

i love blind melon.
try universal theory, the band one of the guitarist and bassist formed after shannon died. the drummer used to be in sublime and the singer was an unknown. they were alright i guess. not very melony.

Ya I used to like the song with the grrl in the bumble bee costume... I knew someone who knew that grrls parents.. Blah blah I know... Ha

On the whole, they don't really grab me. But for one of the best alternative songs ever written, "No Rain" was the cat's meow.

i havent heard a sound like them. but i recommend circa survive. maybe youll like it maybe not.
