I don't know about 'deserve'. But I do believe that some good may finally come out of this, if it raises more attention to the need for finding the cure for cancer. Or better yet, direct the millions raised for research to where it needs to be. And maybe stemcell research will get greater support.

This is just one woman's illness...but it will have an international spotlight. And if thats what it takes, so be it. I'm not a huge fan of the Edwards, but their struggle may benefit America in far more ways than they intended...

How dare you. Are you trying to trash Edwards' bid right out of the gate? Listen, it isn't about what 'Americans deserve', what entitlement CRAP is that? It's about ONE persons' fight with cancer. Perhaps if we DID have someone in (or near) office that had cancer, more effort would be put into finding a cure.

I can't believe you even ASKED that question.

Americans elect presidents not their spouses.

Cancer is a disease that kills people. BUT everyone is going to die eventually, many cancer patients live on for decades, it is not a reason to "stop" normally living until the symptoms/treatment prevent normal activity.

While I am unlikely to vote for the candidate you have in mind my deciding factors are other matters.

I think if worded slightly different, this is a valid question. The issue is, do we deserve to play second fiddle? Obviously, and appropriately, his sick wife will be his primary concern.

And Steve C, you are correct, but you also know how time-consuming and horrific those treatments are.

Nope, its still a valid question. If you found out today that you had cancer, it would change your life. Slipping in the bathtub tonight really wouldn't have the same impact.

But the thing is, they follow their hearts, and you might be gaining support for Edwards with this.

No american deserves cancer, not her, not Tony Snow, not any american. But disablitly has never shown to affect americans negatively. Unless, of course, a particular news outlet decides to run a stop watch on her time left...and it wouldn't surprise me if they did. But no, I don't feel that Tony Snow should step down, or that John Edwards should stop running for president. If americans don't like it, they can vote in the primaries and have their voices heard.

One never knows what the future will bring to ANY of us, the questioner included. Nor do we know what will happen to our wives, husbands or chidren, Your question is as sick as you are.
You will remember this particular post for a very long time -- everytime you see a suspicious lump, or start coughing differently than normal, or when your bowels turn blue.
Now Forgive yourself.

"Deserve"? Poor choice in words but we Americans can be inspired by seeing a courageous woman fight to survive a terrible disease.

You people so love trying to shove your moral, religious,"superiority" down everyones throat but your every action and utterances prove all the hatred and fear of life behind it - and the lies you use to pretend otherwise.
The lack of humanity behind the right wing is it's downfall fortunatly.
