Of course not. We are not animals, who must compete with one another for food and shelter. We are humans, with the capacity to work together for the good of all. People who pull others down to get on top are upside down. They are like one who is drowning in the ocean and doesn't know which way is up, so they are swimming to the bottom, thinking they can get some air there. Or, they are like someone who will gladly drown another person to save themselves, by standing on them to reach the surface. It is animalistic. Those who claim that we must compete like animals to acheive great results are diminished in their capacity to understand the human consciousness, and the abilities unique to humans for self-sacrifice. No society was built by pulling others down. Societies are built by common effort, self-sacrifice, and consideration for others. When those precepts are no longer adhered to, and people begin to behave like animals, we should understand that the society is no longer being built, but is disintegrating.

No, it's not mentally healthful at all. But I don't think it is a function of building a society as much as human nature in general.
I do, however, believe that competition is a good thing, even a fun thing. But one should rise on their own merits, not by pulling others down.

Our society is not a zero-sum game, like politics or socialism. Who in a free society is pulling others down in order to get on top?

Real politics has nothing to do with health, though it claims the contrary. Competition is inherent in every society. You should take the good side of it: you don't have much time to get bored, because you have to defend ur intrests all the time.U know the quotation: if this doesn't kill u, it only makes u stronger!

Healthy to build it? No.
Is it healthy if that is the natural order of things? Yes.
To artificially construct a system like that, when it can be avoided, is not cool. Competition is healthy, but tearing others down is not. They can co-exist.

It is healthy for the future of mankind. Without competition there wouldn't be a world we have today. It brings out the drive in people!

Why do you think society is falling apart at the seams today, it's because of that reason.

Imagine a society where everyone were supported, nurtured, encouraged and loved.
There would be no mental hospitals, courts or jails.
God forbid!
As we need these things, we MUST have skull-crushers, maniacs and thieves.
