Garlic, Bitter Melon, Licorice Root, and Astragalus Root are just a handful of things you could try to deal with lingering effects of illness. They may be able to assist you in restoring general well being.

Each of these has exhibited either antioxident, adaptogenic, or antibacterial/antiviral properties. Licorice Root is said to be a good liver detoxifier, and Astragalus Root is a traditional Chinese tonic for the immune system.

Naturally citrus fruits are also a good way to go, they contain Vitamin C, and flavinoids that are good for the body. Plus they help fight scurvy ;-). Leafy green vegetables contain natural sources of folates and zinc which are also of use to the immune system.

Hope this helps!

There are many different ways of boosting your immune system naturally, but be careful not to choose ones that might make you feel worse due to your illness.

Cold showers: Stimulates your whole system and makes it work more efficiently
Dry skin brushing: Again, stimulates your whole system, and helps the body to release toxins.
Saline nasal spray: People swear by this, claiming to never have colds after starting this.
pollen: A spoonful of pollen a day is also another sworn way of fending off all illnesses, and i highly nutritious.
edible clay: Injesting a tiny amount of edible clay (do research, I think bentonite and pascalite are edible) can absorb any bad things you ate, or can zone in on any areas in your body that need help.
Echinacea: Well known for its boosting abilities for the immune system.
Yoga: Again, a general all round boost to teh system, massaging your insides in a way they have never been touched before.

And then just generally avoiding anyhting that weakens you, sugar, alcohol, laziness, bad posture, too little roughage in the diet and all the other things that are so easy to fall into. Good luck

Without supplements you might as well give up.You cannot eat or afford enough natural food to help you.Besides most of the so called natural food is empty. The soil on this planet is nutrient poor, has been since 1920's.Except in parts of South America and limited parts of Africa. Farms today use Potassium,Nitrogen and Phosphorus as fertilizers.Yep just three.Your body needs 72 nutrients-so how many are you short eating "natural"?.That my friend is reality.Visit www.dna911.info. This company has all natural whole food supplements with all the nutrients your body craves.Incidentally if it the supplements are not made from whole food they will be rejected by your body as waste.

I can tell you what gets depleted when you're sick. You can find the foods you like that contain those minerals and vitamins and build your diet around that. Macrobiotic diets are especially good to build your immune system, so research those and find one that makes you comfortable.

A good immune system boosting diet revolves around healthy eating habits and no added chemicals. The body benefits by ingesting foods with the vitamin B complex, foods that support immune system function, whole amino acids, essential fats and oils, foods that support energy production and foods that feed the hormonal/endocrine system.

Vitamin B10 (folic acid) is vital to making the iron in your blood bind well to the blood cells. These are primarily in your really colorful fruits and veggies like fresh spinach, oranges, etc. In fact there's a diet called the Rainbow diet that believes you're at your healthiest when you eat 10 servings of the richly colored natural, non-cooked foods in your diet (and no meat)

Vitamin B12---with folic acid regulates homocysteine levels. Dietary sources include liver, meat, salt-water fish, oysters, milk, eggs, aged cheese such as roquefort, fortified brewer's yeast and micro-algaes.

Co-Q10 is something they're figuring out that we're all stripping out of our diets, but especially people taking drugs to lower their cholesterol. I don't know if there's a natural source but the supplement is reall worth taking.

Basically from there you just need to have a really healthy, balanced diet. Where you're currently using milk substitute either organic milk or soy or almond milk. The regular milk that we get in the grocery store is all full of antibiotics, hormones and things we don't want to think about. I lost my grandma before I was even born because she was exposed to something called PBB which was in the cattle supply in Michigan in the early 70s. She died a horrible death in the next 10 years from a rare, rare cancer that suddenly exploded in the area where people were unwittingly eating this beef and drinking its milk. It took 2 years for the State of Michigan to even figure out what it was. Also stay away from poultry that isn't either free-range or organic for the same reasons. Those chickens are getting all sorts of crap that we're eating without realizing it. Why work hard to boost your immune system and then eat chemicals in your meat that can kill you at a high enough dose?

All foods high in antioxidants will help; green tea, or black tea too only without the milk; ALL fresh fruit and raw veggies; a wide selection of oriental mushrooms.
Lots of wild salmon (poached or grilled) will help you too.
Equally important is a gentle regime of exercise and fresh air followed by a daily soak in the bathtub to remove toxins (a sauna works just as well) and completed by lots and lots of sleep.
Asking for quantities is risky, as everyone is different; just eat as much as you want!
Onions, garlic, broccoli and leafy green veggies are a daily must. Orange and yellow fruit and veg. should be added for their beta-carotene properties (for example, cooked pumpkin or pumpkin soup for lunch, with raw bell peppers and/or carrot with dins. Mangoes or papayas as snacks or deserts. Etc.)
Don't neglect unsalted nuts and dried berries either ... goji berries are excellent, but might disappear soon due so stock up on them while you can!
Help yourself by getting a copy of "The Food Doctor". This book has a chapter by chapter reference based on various illnesses and diseases, informing you of the food best suited to strengthen you through it all, including some recipes at the back of the book.
Hope you get fighting fit soon!
P.S. There really is nothing wrong with taking pills and supplements of natural herbs and synthetic vitamins just to start you off. I did it, and continue to do so in addition to eating well, and I was recovering from cancer, so believe me, I know where you are coming from.
We all need an extra boost sometimes, a helping hand. If you feel able to consume vast quantities of cole-slaw or spinach each day, then do. But a lot of the food we do eat these days, unless we grow it ourselves, has been robbed of its nutrition due to the conditions it was grown in. So supplements do have a role, especially tinctures, which are more expensive, but then again purer.
If you still want to do it naturally, please choose organically grown produce!
Best of luck, then!

Moderate exercise... not too much though because that could have the opposite effect and could hurt your immune system. More Fruits and vegetables, Less sweets, and lots of fluids. Some good herbs are chamomile and ginger, also try goldenseal, and Echinacea.

The best way to build up your immune system is to take vitamins that contain quite a bit of vitamin c. drink plenty of vitamin enriched juices, stay hydrated. If the vitamins aren't what you are looking for, then try taking some one daily antioxidants.
