Earlier today I posted this question. Many answers had to do with beging at home and in one's room. But what about being in a dark place somewhere else?

i was and still am afraid. nothing happened to me to be so afraid. i should be more afraid of the demon on my bed or the monster in my closet than of the dark.

EDIT: i was thinking about your question last night. i was thinking to myself why am i afraid of sleeping in the dark but not afraid to leave my house at 5am to catch the bus to work. i live in a dangerous neighborhood and its dark out. where as in my room its safe.

i think its because its easier to be scared of the something so simple to keep my mind off of the things i need to be afraid of.

Darkness limits what our eyes can tell us about our surroundings. When our senses are limited, our bodies automatically react by being extra careful. We also feel a loss of control because we rely onour eyesight so much. When we feel this loss of control, certain endorphins run through our bodies that can mimic the endorphins we feel when we are afraid.

Children have no idea that the uneasy feeling they get in the dark is just endorphins, so they just blame it on the "boogey monster".

I was afraid of the dark, I thought there were monsters and creepy things there. A girl once put her hand down my pants and I was young and scared, suddenly I wasn't and it's been different ever since.

Nothing scary ever happened to be in the dark, I was just scared of the fact I couldn't see in the dark.

No I was never scared of the dark as a child. Went through a period of that as an adult though. I got better.

Well-let's just say that I am in my 30's, and still am afraid of the dark,,,,because of the things that DO go bump in the night.
I have seen things, and heard things.
Let's just leave it at that.

Never was afraid of the dark. I always thought that if it was dark, "it" (the scary thing in my imagination) couldn't see me either.

Its the fact that there could be something out there that you dont know about. Sometimes kids are scared of things they cant see. It could also be the stories that people tell kids.

It wasn't monsters or anything... It was just not knowing what came next, what could be there... Most of us have overcome it because we can assure ourselves there's nothing there.... But we're all afraid of the future.
