So nasty? What happened to being a 'good Christian'? How can 'believers' say things like, "it's God's will" and then say that we have free choice? Do they just use this 'God thing' at for their own convenience? How many of you 'Christians' practice what you preach, how many of you are hypocrites?

I don't think God followers are 'nasty'. Not the true Christians, anyway.

The free will thing is highly debated by the greatest theologians, and I doubt you'll get a decent answer here.

Christianity revolves around being saved by Christ. That's what the main belief is intended to be. But Christianity has become the most flexible religion in existence, and if only there was a dime for every person that makes the claim that they're a "Christian" but aren't saved. And there will be even more people who pride themselves on not being religious, but will relent and at times will say that they're Christians. They don't practice what the Bible says or care to follow up on what they supposedly believe. Christianity is often just an easy and convenient excuse for them.

You're far more likely to run into these people than the ones who truly are Christians. Don't let the deceived and hypocritical ones speak for the entire religion.

I would have to say I don't think I'm nasty to unbelievers, there are some good christians out there. Unfortunatly, there are some people that don't practice what they are supposed to believe. We do have free choice over things we can control like what we do on earth, but God's will is things that we don't have control over like death (in most cases) and things like that. I don't consider myself as a hypocrite, but I know a few christians who say they should be one way and do the total polar opposite when it applies to them. Take the hypocrites in the Bible that Jesus had to face daily. They called themselves followers of Christ, but Tempted him and were very showy in a lot of ways. By no means am I calling christians perfect, because we're not, but not all of us are mean or hypocrites. Please consider this, and I hope this helped you.

I don't believe "God followers" in general are nasty. There are nasty people all over...Christians, Atheists, Muslims, etc. We are ALL human. As a Christian, I do believe that most things are God's will and that others are a result of our free choice. I don't understand everything, but I continue to try. I don't use the "God thing" at my convenience. I do my best to practice what I believe is God's will for me, but I have my weaknesses as does every human.

Hi, i think you are confusing the two issues. Gods will is Gods will. It is the final outcome. However, as humans, we have the right to choose. What the person chooses is not always gods will. In other words, we are flawed. The fact is the people you are talking to may not be fully informed or using the statement blindly. God expects us to make choices. Right or wrong, choices may also be gods will. As far as practice what they preach, I cant speak for each person, but if thier intention is good but conflicts with your perception of each situation, realize that we are all just people bound by our convictions and doing the best we can.
Dont be so harsh, the people you speak of may have good intentions, but just go about it the wrong way.

There seems to be a growing number of believers struggling with this very question.

I stopped going to church over it.

So did my wife before I met her.

The Scripture has been interpreted so many different ways and for that reason there are so many different churches. It's very easy to stereo type, however, stereo types exist for a reason.

Consider that perhaps not all Christians are really Christan's.
Just as some Muslims don't kill anyone.
So on and so forth.

As humans, emotions get in the way of things.

I do my best as often as I can, I make mistakes, and some times I want to make the mistake.

People just get carried away and want you to see the message their way. If you see it your own way, they don't understand and accuse you of doing wrong.

I don't know the exact origin of this frame of mind but it came from a person and doesn't apply to any religion.

Logically speaking, you can't be mad someone if you don't know or understand their point of view, just as you can't be mad at someone for being made at you because they don't know or understand your point of view.

Example:

You cut someone off on the interstate by accident. It was an accident, because he was speeding you didn't have enough time to see him. This same person was driving along side of you and you swerved at him because something got in your eye and it hurt. Now this person thinks you are messing with him. He flips you the bird and almost runs you off the road.

See my point, he got mad at you for all the wrong reasons. You can't get mad at him because he didn't know it was an accident. You might have done the same you might not. No one knows why he got as mad as he did for getting cut off. Maybe he needed to go the hospital.

Lets say I fully accept this logic and preach it on the mountain tops. Does this mean that I won’t get angry and lash out some day. Get real.

Too true. God & Jesus did not hate. Humans do that ! Love and forgiveness was what was supposed to be preached.

Whilst various sexual practices and other acts were siad to be a sin in the bible, it also called for forgiveness of sins. I don't think they even knew what abortion was in those days so that is obviously a modern hate for them.

You certainly have a good point about hypocracy - the so called Christians on here exhibit a range of nagative atitudes and emotions. Ego trips, hell and damnation, hatred of gays, abortion and divorce is hardly going to bring people into church and who would want to even consider a religion that preaches in the way many do on here.

If the Christians really wanted to spread the message then surely they would talk of the good things, the positive things - not all this bile and hatred stuff!

I'm sorry you have that impression, and I won't challenge your experience with Christians, but I do offer this...

Christians aren't perfect. We do have a perfect model to follow but even the most mature Christian will not reach perfection as long as he is on this earth. Each one of us are at a different stage of growth, and there are some who unfortunately choose not to grow. As is in life, you may run into a mechanic that is crooked or a doctor who is callous.... this does not make all mechanics and doctors bad does it?

As far as God's will... that is certainly a subject that is more in depth than I can cover here, but in short, there is a distinction between God's perfect will and God's permissive will that has a tendency to get lumped together as "God's will".

I hope this helped!

To believe in God in a true way is to accept God as to be one God for all people.

For the Christians, Jews, Muslims and so on.

But the people choose to picture him in their own particular way to "Design" HIM???? to fit their religious needs.

This I think is born out of a need for maintaining a parental guidance, for someone to turn to for support of our lives.

To be a "good Christian" or any other religion is to be harmonious with all people. That to me would be our creators' purpose since he made life to procreate.

Most of our wars today are based on religious differences and lifestyles. We choose not to respect the others so-called
different God.

Globally, we are going against his very purpose going in different directions of will and thought and the planet is in a self destruct mode.

Unless we come together (never gonna happen) we are going to self destruct and it looks like we are on that path right now.
