A "handyman" who painted the metal railing on my porch used spray paint and failed to mask the area where the metalwork meets the brick of the house. While the splattered area is small, it is unsightly as the color used was black.

Do not sand blast! It will eat the brick away! You can try to use some lacquer thinner. Apply a coat, let it sit for a little while to soak into the paint, and wipe away what paint you can. Do this as many time is necessary, and when you can't get any more off, use a pressure washer at about 6-10 inches away and blast off what you can.

Being that bricks are so porous, you will likely never be able to fully remove the paint.

It depends what kind of paint he used. If it is latex based, there is a product called "Oops" that works on removing latex really well. You could also try a brush and some water. If it is oil based, try using paint thinner and a brush to get in the pores of the brick. A pressure washer could work also.

definitely wasn't that handy. Unfortuneately because it is fresh paint it is flexible and will not chip off. To use chemical stripper on it would affect the railing. Paint it with an artist brush brick color is best bet for now.

you can try a wire brush, but it'll probably need sand blasted.
