Last night I had my first experience with swollen ankles. Of course I called my mom first and she told me to drink water and put my feet up. I think it helped a little bit, but does anyone have any other advice that may work a little better? I'm only 20 weeks along, and I can't wear sandals for one of my jobs. I don't know if my athletics will fit me when my feet are all swollen or if it will be comfortable. I was hoping I wouldn't get swollen ankles and feet until I was a little further along.

Some swelling is normal with pregnancy, in which case you should watch your salt intake, put your feet up, and drink plenty of water.

However, don't just assume that major swelling is a part of pregnancy. I was so swollen that I couldn't even see my ankles, and I thought it was just a part of pregnancy. It turns out that I had extremely severe preeclampsia - talk to your doctor about your swelling!

Best wishes.

Swollen feet remedies are really only putting your feet up and soaking them in cool water.

But being swollen at 20-25 weeks may be a bit too early for edema....go and see your doctor to see what he says. Not to scare you, but to inform you, I had a friend who had swollen feet (really swollen) at 25 weeks and she was suffering from Preeclampsia, a very serious high blood pressure condition - not seen usually until at least 30-35 weeks. She delivered her baby at 25 weeks, b/c she had other medical problems, along with preeclampsia. But the swollen feet tipped off the docs. Baby was very premature, but doing very well now. Anyway, go see your doc, as the doc may be able to let you know more or give you medication to stop the swelling. Again, I am not trying to scare you, but it can be a terrible thing if it is something serious and can lead to complications. Swollen feet very early in pregnancy is nothing to turn the other cheek on.

Get off your feet and put them up as much as you can. Cut down on your salt intake and though it sounds counterproductive YES drink LOTS of water. WHile at work put your feet up every break. If your hands and face swell like your feet then CALL YOUR DOC. This is a sign of preeclampsia. Otherwise you are goin to experience SOME swelling no matter what (especially if it's hot where you live). But follow these directions and it should be bearable.

Watch your salt intake and drink water and put your feet above your head for 20 minutes a day. There is no other way to combat this. Remember to tell your doctor about this even if putting your feet up helps as it COULD be a sign of other serious problems. The doc can do tests to make sure you and baby are ok. CONGRATS!

the person who said to get in a pool is right. It worked wonders for me. I am 38 weeks today and have had swollen ankles for a while. I don't do water aerobics but i do just get in the water and float on a pool noodle with my legs dangling. I also try to drink homemade lemonade a lot. It is a natural diuretic, meaning it pulls the excess fluid out of you cells and allows your kidneys to dispose of it for you.

Being in water is supposed to REALLY help. . . if you have access to a pool doing some water aerobics is shown to actually "force the water out of the tissue"... .

And your mom is correct. Elevating your feet and drinking a lot of water can help. Swollen ankles is known as "edema".

First, don't get too scared by reading about preeclampsia. This is pregnancy induced hypertension. They should be checking for this everytime you go to the doctor. (They check to see if you have protein in your urine and your blood pressure). Anyway, the key to getting excess fluids out of your body is to lie down on your left side. This pulls the baby away from your liver, which helps it process the fluid. I had preeclampsia, and they made me stay on my left side. Don't forget to use lots and lots of pillows. It's a pain, but it does work. I was on bedrest because I got so sick, and being on the left side really did make a difference.

a few swelling of the ankeles and arms is ordinary in the course of being pregnant , and is prompted due to the fact of water retention and additional weight. satisfactory factor to do is be certain you're consuming ample water and aren't both sitting in a single possition or status for too lengthy. while you'll positioned your ft up on a help or stool. a different factor to observe despite the fact that is that swelling of the ankles followed with prime blood strain, complications and/or blurry imaginative and prescient/faintness generally is a signal of pre-eclampsia, so when you revel in some other signs please see your health care professional to be examine out.
