I'm just looking for ideas to jog my mind, so if you can help i'd like your opinion.
You are going on an interplanetary mission for five years and is permitted to take 3 personal items for your comfort: a non religious book, a technological device, and a personal item. What would you take under each category and why?
So far I'm thinking about a cookbook, a laptop, my 3 foot Mickey Mouse or a rosary/picture of Jesus (for the personal item)
what do you think?

Personally, I would take
1. A poem book
2. My laptop
3. Picture of my family

I like your ideas. Not too far from mine. The cookbook may come in handy!

Well, I'd think about taking the entire works of Shakespeare, but if you're allowed to take a laptop, then wow, you could download anything and everything onto it before taking off, including movies, music and books... so I'd definitely include that. The cookbook sounds like a great idea.

My personal item... if it was allowed, I'd probably take my cat.

I'm assuming you specified "non-religious book" because you're not looking for the answer "the Bible", which many people state as their one book out of reverence, love, or unfortunately guilt.
So, my book would be the only one I have read more than once - The Chronicles of Narnia. For entertainment value, of course.
My technological device would probably also be a laptop - it could serve many purposes.
And my personal item would be my digital camera - never leave home without it!

for book i would take a picture album(so I could see my friends and family regularly), or a medical book(in case I get hurt, those aliens wouldn't know what to do!)
Technological device would be an intergalactic cell phone, and a personal item would be deoderant(B.O. freaking stinks!!)

what a fun thing to write about, good luck!!
