if you have located the fuse box which is behind the glove box turn the two white clips on either side and fuel gauge fuse should be 15 amp

Check your relays, and your owner's manual lists your fuses by purpose, location, and amps.
Beyond that, Year and exact style series would help (315, 318, 320, 323, 325, 328, 330, 333, 335, 340, 350, i, ic, is, e, euro / amero, etc.) there exist so many variants it is impossible to determine, on my older 3-series it could be in the SI board or those batteries but newer ones no longer use this...

Aren't your fuses in the plastic box in the engine compartment? They should be labeled, or they should be listed in your book.
They can easily be checked to see if one is blown.

fuse box under the bonnet left hand side should tell in the hand book..
