Keep in mind that the crime rate (see http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm)
has been steadily declining since the 1990's. The rate of incarceration has no mathematical relation to the incarceration rate. Check it out.

that is fairly undesirable whilst some youthful guy can get 2 many years interior the slammer for smoking a sprint reefer interior the alley at the back of a nightclub. If the "conflict on drugs" replaced into particularly working - why are there nevertheless lots of folk puffing away and getting extreme? It hasn't performed something to provide up the circulate of medicine - surely, the worst drug of all, methamphetamine, might desire to be required to have a "Made interior the country" label - 'reason maximum of that crap isn't coming from Mexico or Columbia. i'm a Canadian, and in case you get caught via the law enforcement officials smoking a joint in an alleyway, you frequently get informed to scatter and bypass homestead - after your grass is confiscated. in case you're charged, you frequently get an excellent; it particularly is, of course, assuming you at the instant are not trafficking interior the stuff. generally, you get a custodial sentence once you're convicted of a violent crime, or are a repeat criminal. i replaced into watching a documentary a on a similar time as returned with reference to the U. S. detention center equipment, and it made the assertion that the U. S. is "addicted" to incarceration as the thank you to unravel societal issues. merely lock 'em up. Out of sight - out of innovations. yet that innovations-set under no circumstances fixes the basis situation. needed sentences have not worked o.k. in discouraging crime - the "3 strikes" rules are a primary occasion. Prisons have become a super marketplace interior the country, and imprisoning human beings for particularly minor offenses isn't possibly to provide up each time quickly.

we do that because the US is a f*cked up place. But the people in it are the ones who make it that way. if someone does something wrong they should be punished. but the punishment should fit the crime. A rapist should have their d*cks chopped off. punishment fits the crime. A guy that abuses his wife should get beat to death. but thats just my opinion.
