www.bettatalk.com is one of many good betta sites out there.

Your best bet is to keep a group of females as the males will fight with each other or beat up females in attempts to breed. pH and hardness are not critical for bettas. Breeding is best done in one on one sistuations with only one male and one female that have been carefully conditioned for breeding.

Try out bettatalk.com, you'll find a wealth of info there.

Social: Males cannot be kept together
pH: 6.8 - 7.4
Hardness: up to 20 dGH
Temperature: 75-86 F (24-30 C)
Breeding: Egglayer - bubblenest

Here is a pretty informative website about Siamese Fighting Fish (aka Bettas):

only females can be kept together, in groups of 5 or more in a 10 gallon tank or larger, with a ton of hiding places. they'll still be aggressive, just not as aggressive as males. males must always be kept in a 1-betta-only tank, they will not tolerate another male in the tank with them (the only time i've heard that work is 2 passive males in a heavily planted 120 gallon tank...).

check the sites below, they're the best ones i've found and i'm a regular on the second link.

first of all, how great is the aquarium? regardless of if that's a variety of one million gallon fish bowl, he purely does not have sufficient room and he needs a clean tank. if that's the case get at minimum a three gallon. in case you have already got a three+ gallon tank, he's purely hiding for a jointly as and as quickly as he thinks that's risk-free he will swim around extra.

Betta's are not a schooling fish. You should never put more than one male together because they will fight. You can have more than one female but I'm still not sure they will school.
