It's probably not caused by your shampoo or whatever. Having a metal ring in your body is not natural and your body is repelling it. I have this problem with pretty much any peircing I get.. Lumps under a piercing are really common, ecspecially in ear/cartilage peircings. Basically what it is, is a lump of puss under the skin. It will be very hard and sometimes painful. It will eventually work itself out. What I mean by work itself out is that it will eventually pop and the infection will ooze out. This is a good thing. In the mean time, go to your local walmart and get a bottle of the inverness ear care solution. Use this on your piercing at least 3 times a day. I would say that if within two weeks the lump is still there to go to your doctor, or take the peircing out. You can also try to squeeze the infection out, but if your body's not ready it's not gonna help.

If you don't have the money for the bottle of inverness ear care here's some cheap alternatives but they don't work as good. Peroxide, sea salt/ water (not iodized table salt) you can use epsom salt.

Good luck :)

Regular *non-iodized* table salt will work if it's all you can get your hands on, but sea salt shouldn't be too hard to find. Mix a small amount in warm water and flush the area with it. If it's really painful and doesn't seem to be just a skin issue, get to the doctor or ER - the infection could have spread to the bone. Peircings really need to be taken care of until they are completely healed! That means saline solution or an antiseptic like isopropyl alcohol or hydrogen peroxide twice a day until it is removable, and then every time you change the jewelry, it and the peircing needs to be cleaned. Same after you shower or bathe.

Use Betodine and a Q-tip, put a dab on the TOP of your piercing, run the ring through a few times. Repeat every few hours. DO NOT use Polysporine or similar creams

u could have an infection or abzess in it, go to the dr right away before it affects your optical nerves, then taking a ring out will be the least of your worries. do NOT mess with this yourself

Good lord, you could have a bone abscess, NOT a good place for that!!! Go to the ER, they might have to draw some fluid away from it with a needle....go NOW!
