Oh, no! If you don't want to, you don't need to add 'em back! If they add you, they become your "fans." If you add 'em, they become your "contacts." Adding people to your contacts list merely makes their profiles easy to access from yours. Easy as that. There's no ritual, ceremony, or commitment of any binding nature.

No, it's not rude. I look at their questions and answers, and then decide whether or not I want to. I have, however, added several to mine, and they were kind enough to respond. It's a matter of personal choice, in my opinion.

no you dont need to. you should just be flattered someone thought you interesting enough to add you as a friend. but its not rude if you dont return the favour. its just your character to be safer- nothing wrong with that.
