The scientific reason for our conscience is social. We have a conscience because we are social animals, and it's what makes a cooperative society possible.

As science means knowledge, conscience etymologically means self-knowledge . . . But the English word implies a moral standard of action in the mind as well as a consciousness of our own actions. . . . Just try to live with people who dont have one!


There is some evidence to show that some of our conscience values are "hard wired". Most societies have similar values to begin with, such as respect for elders, the belief in protecting our families, etc.

Because it bestows an advantage upon those that listen or use their conscience,therefore they live longer and reproduce more often than ones without any conscience!

conscious is the way we self police.

Motivates us to do what's right....warns us against doing wrong.

It's also the reason why we are--to think and rationalize and what's separates is from the quadro-peds.
