I want to try ubuntu on the PC but on my laptop you press F12 and it comes up with a menu showing the hard drive, disk drive and network and I can choose which to boot from but it dosent have any keys that seem to do that job on the PC.
Is there a way?

As you've said, F12 lets you choose where to boot from. Have ubuntu on a cd, have it in the cd drawer, and the boot selection set to boot first from the cd rom. From that point, ubuntu will install automatically. If you are saying that you have 2 pcs, one a lap top and one a desktop, try F2 for the desktop. It's gotta have a choice somewhere !

It sounds like you want the system mode boot up - and in this case on a reboot press F8 not F12.

F2 show the BIOS system of hard drives - this may also be the case.

This is what I gather from your question. If this is not what you require then please rephrase the question.

All the best
