The idea was always you try get to be a pop star and you have a chance in a million of making a million. Now you have a chance in a million of a million people stealing your work and downloading your music free and you get no material reward. I feel that somehow the balance has to be redressed to reward achivement. Would you agree ?

There is a definite loss of revenue to the music companies and the artist by illegal downloading. But on the other hand the number of legal download sites is growing. The advantage of downloading legally is that you do not have to pay for the tracks you don't like on an album as you can pick your own selection. The Internet has also made it easier to get noticed for new bands/artists. With the advent of good quality recording equipment for home use it is comparatively easy and cheap to make your own demos and upload to my space etc. In fact a leading music magazine is looking into the possibility of setting up a download site just for unsigned musicians. If this comes about the artist would then get a far larger share of the profits from his/her work. It may even increase the incentive for new musicians if it works.

Limewire should be shut down immediately. They're are hundreds of places where you can legally buy song cheaply:

1. www.gomusic.ru (15 cents a song)
2. www.musicstore.real.com/music_store (60 a song)

...to name a few

These idiots do not realize that they are promoting higher prices for everything else music related. The record companies are off-setting their losses by charging higher prices for live show and merchandise. They are also not getting accurate information on which of their artists are selling and which are not. This is how Brittany Spears became so popular. Little girls bought the cd's and the rest of the population stole their favorite artist's music.

The record companies then determined that everyone loved Brittany Spears!! Thanks thieves.

I agree that the music industry and FCC needs too tighten down on this more. Peer to peer networks should all be completely illegal and shut down. If everyone started paying for these songs, movies, and programs the damn prices would go waaaaay down. So, stop shooting yourselves in the foot!

Illegal downloads, yes. Even legal downlods have an effect on the artists, because they charge less money for the download

no way. anyone who writes or performs music for the fame and money are in it for the wrong reasons. so what if the big music labels lose i little bit of money by people downloading for free, that readdresses the balance a little for the years when they made millions out of people, fans and performers
